History

In late 2004 the two founders of GeoMap Systems met as postgraduate students at University College London (UCL)
Quickly they began to discover there common interests. Brainstorming and discussions about visions of geospatial products and promising new and innovative applications started almost immediately.

From the early days, technologies to generate 3D maps and City Models have been the main focus of interest. It was believed that the rapid technological advances to capture real world data on the one hand and data distribution technologies on the other hand would open up a whole new virtual world accessible to everyone at any time. Coupled with improved accuracy standards and realism never seen before would increase the number of applications exponentially.

However they quickly realized a missing link in order to provide appropriate data. How to process rapidly large amounts of raw data in order to serve multiple clients and applications on a large scale in a cost-effective way

The development of new automatic technologies to produce high quality city models started in early 2005. Quality assurance, accuracy, level of detail as well as performance has been on the top of the list of priorities ever since.

Especially the introduction of Google Earth™ and Microsoft’s Virtual Earth™ has confirmed the vision of this initiative and highlighted the needs for its technical solutions significantly.

Geomap Systems is focusing on commercializing geospatial solutions from market-driven research in order to provide large scale services and expertise to a variety of costumers and clients.
